If you notice a major increase in the traffic to your website and in case after you check the visitor stats it turns out that it comes from places across the globe or from other web servers, your site is more than likely being attacked by an automatic bot. Such pieces of software go through random websites aiming to log in to their admin area using a brute-force attack or to leave spam comments under any article where this kind of an option is offered. Unfortunately, this is something quite common these days, but if you know the IP addresses through which the attacks come, you could block them, so the bots will be unable to access your Internet site in any way. Of course, you can block IPs even if you allow only people from particular countries to access your site.
IP Blocking in Website Hosting
If you have a website hosting account with our company and you want to block one or a number of IP addresses, you could use the IP Blocking tool, which is included in our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel. Using a very simple interface, you could prevent any IP from accessing your content even if you have never had a web hosting account before. All it takes to perform this is to log inside to your Control Panel, to go to the IP Blocking section, to choose a certain domain or subdomain from a drop-down menu and then to type in the IP address. You will not need to do anything complex if you want to block a whole network - you will simply have to omit the last octet, so entering 1.1.1. with a blank space after the last dot shall block the whole range from 1.1.1.1 to 1.1.1.255. All blocked IPs will be listed in the same section, so you shall be able to remove any of them from the blacklist with simply a click.
IP Blocking in Semi-dedicated Servers
Our semi-dedicated server accounts feature a really simple-to-use IP blocking tool, that'll permit you to prohibit individual IPs or even whole networks from accessing your sites with simplya few mouse clicks and you will not have any difficulties to achieve that even if that is your first hosting account. When you check out the IP Blocking section of the Hepsia CP, you will just have to choose the domain or subdomain you need from a drop-down list, then enter the IP address inside a box which you'll see there and you will be all set. To limit the access for a whole network, you must leave one or more octets blank. For example, if you input 123.123. and don't enter anything inside the third and fourth positions, our hosting server will deny requests from all IP addresses between 123.123.1.1 and 123.123.255.255.
